The Pope asks the world to pray for all Artists!

Pope Francis is asking for worldwide prayers for artists this month! “The arts and nature express the beauty of creation and bring joy to the soul. Let us join the Pope in praying for artists, so that with their creativity, they continue showing us the greatness of God.” August 2017.

Gifts from God

When I was a girl, sometimes I could chose for myself what to dream about each night. I’d imagine a TV set (they way they were back then–beige, boxy and awkward with big dials and a flailing antenna). I would turn the channel chooser dial in my mind, tuning it at will to the “show” I wanted to watch. Yeah, sure. Easy.

I think art and prayer are somehow like this. But not necessarily easy, and not channeled by TV either! There is an aspect of setting one’s mind and attention, listening and watching. I believe beautiful prayers, and beautiful art, are gifts from God.

Not only the prayers, but prayer itself is a gift from God, who invites us to come to Him, speak with Him, ask Him, share with Him from our hearts. Whether a prayer be one memorized, one repeated with others, one without out words but full of feeling, one of imagery or sound–prayers arise from our hearts and the Holy Spirit within us. We are invited to communicate with the LORD God! And the LORD speaks to us in prayer, and in the scriptures, and through the church.

In one sense, prayer is fascinating, unfathomable, mysterious. And yet, in another sense, prayer is as familiar as daily conversation. But it is always a gift. Thank you God, for giving us prayer.

Prayer: May I Walk As a Blessing

May I walk this day
in the realm of grace,
walking with You
my feet firmly on your earth-path,
my heart loving all as kindred,
my words and deeds alive with justice.

May I walk as blessing,
meeting blessing at every turn
in every challenge, blessing,
in all opposition, blessing,
in harm’s way, blessing.

May I walk each step in this moment of grace,
alert to hear You
and awake enough to say
a simple Yes.

Jesus: You Are Everything I Need

Jesus, it is in my hour of need that I see Your powerful provision in my life. When I am in need of comfort, You are my Comforter. When I am in need of courage You go before me. When I am in need of friendship You are my friend that sticks closer than a brother. When I am in need of stability You are the Anchor for my soul. When I am in need of finances You own the cattle on a thousand hills. When I am in need of peace You are the peacemaker. When I am in need of food You are the Bread of Life. When I am thirsty You are the living water that leads to eternal life. You are my Shepherd and I shall never be in want of anything. Thank You for meeting every need I have. Amen.

Thrive: Our Roots Will Go Deep

Lord, even as the water, sun, and nutrients from the soil make the plants flourish in the summer we are reminded that as we are faithful in reading Your Word and applying its Truths to our lives – we, too, will thrive spiritually. Our roots will go deep into the fertile soil of faith and our tendrils of spiritual life will reach heavenward as we keep our hearts and eyes focused upon Jesus. Thank You, Jesus, that You are the One who establishes our faith through Your redemptive work on the cross of Calvary.
